Electives


Sussex County Technical School offers the following electives:

Teacher's Assistant

No credits are given in this elective. Teachers selects students. This elective is for seniors only. Seniors will help grade, organize, run errands for the teacher, and help in any possible way.

Intro to Automotive

This course is designed to give the student an introduction to the automotive industry. The major topics of study are as follows:

  1. Automotive industry overview
  2. Career opportunities
  3. Automotive systems
  4. Safety and personal protection
  5. Automotive repair tools and equipment

Intro to Welding

This course is designed to give the student an introduction to the Welding industry. The major topics of study are as follows:

  1. Electric ARC
  2. MIG
  3. Oxycetline cutting

Photography

This course introduces the student to traditional equipment and digital photography together with both black and white and color film. Also included in this course is instruction in Adobe PhotoShop.

Web Page Production and Design

This course is designed to teach webpage design and maintenance using tools such as HTML, JavaScript, CSS, PHP and MySQL. Students will also be responsible for the school website and interface with designers from the graphics and media production classes on joint projects.

Media Production

This course is designed to have students develop script, edit and produce DVD presentations for use in the following areas: school wide promotional programs, course specific promotions, step by step presentations and individual student portfolios. The course is production based and open to selected advanced students. Training will include story board set-up, scripting, film legalities, scheduling, still and motion camera handling, specific software and hardware application usage, production, labeling and packaging. This elective will interface with graphic and website designers on joint projects.

Graphics Design & Production

A course designed for advanced design students to apply graphic production techniques. The course was developed to give students the opportunity to develop and enhance the skills necessary to be successful in the graphics industry. Production of district printing materials, to include but not limited to: envelopes, play booklets, programs, posters, calendars, note pads, business cards, invoices, signs, and letterhead. This elective will interface with media and website designers on joint projects.

Yearbook

This course is designed around the creation and production of the Sussex Tech Yearbook. It is open to recommended juniors and seniors and is limited to eighteen students. The student will learn to publish, crop, design and write copy.
